Frequently Asked Questions Regarding License Renewal

 

 

  1. Is there a grace period if I do not renew my license on time?
    No. Under the law, the board does not have the authority or leeway to grant grace periods, waivers, or exceptions.

     

  2. Is there a penalty if I do not renew my license on time?
    Yes. The nursing home administrator whose certificate of registration has not been renewed shall be required to complete an additional five (5) clock hours of continuing education per calendar quarter, up to a maximum of twenty (20) penalty hours.  

     

  3. Am I allowed to practice nursing home administration while I am completing the additional penalty hours of continuing education imposed for late renewal?
    No. Any administrator who has not renewed the certificate of registration by the renewal date is prohibited from practicing nursing home administration.

     

  4. Does the board use the postmark or the date received in determining the timeliness of a renewal application?
    The board uses the postmark to determine the timeliness of a renewal application.  Timely renewal means that the properly completed application and all supporting documentation has been postmarked before the date of renewal and the the correct number of CEU's in the appropriate categories have been submitted.
