How Does the Candidate Arrange to Take the Examination?
Once the candidate completes the prerequisites required to be licensed by examination, the Board office should be notified to mail the candidate an application. The application and its supporting documentation shall be filed with the Board at least thirty (30) days before the regular quarterly meeting of the Board. The Board generally meets the second week of March, June, September, and December.
When the Application is Completed
Return the Application for Licensure Examination as a Nursing Home Administrator to the Board's office. The Board will evaluate the candidate’s application at the quarterly meeting and, if approved, the Board will forward its approval to the Professional Examination Service.
The fee for the national nursing home administrator examination is $350.00. The fee for the state section of the examination is $175.00. The total cost for both sections of the licensure test is $525.00. The candidate must pay directly to the Professional Examination Service via internet with a credit card or a debit card.
When the Authorization Letter Arrives
The Professional Examination Service will notify the candidate that he/she may schedule an appointment to take the examination and will provide a toll-free number for that purpose. The candidate may sit for the examination at any one of the Sylvan Technology Centers nationwide (a list of sites will be enclosed with the authorization letter). Candidates will have sixty (60) days from the date on their authorization letter to schedule an appointment and sit for the examination.
Notification of Examination Results
Candidates' scores are reported to the Board. The Board then promptly mails the examination results to the individual candidates. Successful candidates, upon submission of a transmittal and a check for $250.00, will be mailed a permanent license and a registration card within 2 weeks.
